CREATURE FEATURE: BIG SKATE
The Big Skate, the largest skate species in North American waters, can reach lengths of up to 2.4 meters. Found in the north-eastern Pacific Ocean, they live at depths of 3-800 meters, usually in shallower areas. Big Skates are notable for their large eggcases, which can contain multiple embryos and make them one of the most reproductive elasmobranchs, producing potentially 1,260 babies in a year under ideal conditions.
