Abalone are fascinating marine creatures known for their unique abilities and important roles in ocean ecosystems. They can “gallop” away from danger by using their strong foot, but mostly stay attached to rocks while feeding on algae. Their shells are beautiful and functionally important for respiration and reproduction. Abalone also produce pearls and have blue-green blood that serves a similar purpose as human blood. Recent research shows they may have antibacterial properties, making them interesting for both marine biology and medicine.
