Ocean Wise is receiving nearly $850,000 in funding to promote sustainable fishing practices in three Indigenous fishing communities in Canada. This funding, from the Government of Canada’s Sustainable Development Goals Funding Program, aims to co-create assessment methods that integrate Indigenous knowledge and promote local sustainable seafood. The project will help improve economic opportunities while protecting marine health and fostering collaboration within these communities. By recognizing and empowering Indigenous fishing practices, Ocean Wise is working to ensure these fisheries can thrive sustainably.
