On April 12, 2025, a liveaboard boat in Thailand, the MV DiveRACE Class E, caught fire while moored near Khao Lak. Sixteen divers and ten crew members had to abandon ship because the crew could not stop the blaze, which originated in the engine room. They were rescued by another boat and reported no serious injuries, although they lost all their diving gear. The fire burned for about seven hours before being extinguished, and the boat eventually sank. This incident raised concerns about the safety of liveaboards, following several other fire-related incidents in recent years.
