Ocean Wise Releases 2024 Shoreline Cleanup Impact Report, Highlighting 30 Years of Canada’s Most Commonly Found Litter

Ocean Wise released its 2024 Shoreline Cleanup Impact Report to mark 30 years of efforts to protect Canadian shorelines. More than one million volunteers have joined the initiative since it began in 1994, collecting significant litter, primarily cigarette butts. These butts make up one-third of all collected litter and pose a serious threat to aquatic ecosystems. The report emphasizes how each cleanup contributes to a healthier ocean and encourages more people to join the fight against plastic pollution.
