First evidence of noise-making sharks

Researchers have found evidence that spotted estuary smoothhound sharks can make sounds by producing clicks. While many fish are known for making noises, sharks were thought to be silent. This study observed ten rigs in tanks, all of which clicked when handled by scientists, suggesting the clicks might be stress responses. However, these sharks did not make sounds while swimming or eating. Further research is needed to understand how they produce these sounds and their significance in the ocean environment.
