Major progress – but still gaps – in shark and ray conservation

Significant progress has been made in protecting sharks and rays. Almost half of the countries involved in CITES have enacted protective regulations. However, many species, like manta rays, still lack proper enforcement. About one-third of shark and ray species are at risk of extinction. Global cooperation is essential for the survival of these marine animals.
