It’s official – there are three species of manta ray!

Scientists have officially identified a third manta ray species, Mobula yarae. This species lives in warm Atlantic waters from the U.S. to Brazil. Mobula yarae looks different from the other two manta species. It has unique white shoulder patches and lighter facial features. Understanding this new species will help protect them from threats like fishing and boat strikes.
