A Brief History of Pulau Sipadan – From Obscure Island to World’s Top Dive Site

Pulau Sipadan is famous for its diving and marine life. Originally a bird sanctuary, it became a turtle egg reserve in 1964. Divers discovered its beauty in the 1980s, but tourism led to environmental concerns. To protect the reefs, the Malaysian government controls visitor numbers and has created a marine park. Future efforts aim to recognize Sipadan as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
