High Seas Treaty officially ratified

The High Seas Treaty has been ratified and will start on January 17, 2026. This treaty allows countries to create marine protected areas in international waters. Previously, such protections applied only in national waters. The treaty aims to protect ocean biodiversity and requires countries to strengthen their laws. More countries are expected to join in support of this important ocean conservation effort.
