A diver suffered serious decompression sickness while diving in Kreidesee, Germany. The 56-year-old man rapidly ascended from a depth of 24 meters due to a medical emergency. His 53-year-old partner, also a diver, surfaced with him and alerted emergency services. The man was airlifted to a hyperbaric facility for treatment, while the woman experienced milder symptoms. Decompression sickness, known as “the bends,” can occur when nitrogen bubbles form in the body after a rapid ascent.
