French Polynesia creates world’s largest MPA

French Polynesia has created the world’s largest marine protected area (MPA). It will cover almost 5 million square kilometers of ocean. Around one-fifth of this area will have strict protections. Class I areas ban all fishing and dredging, while Class II allows sustainable tourism. This effort aims to protect marine diversity and honors traditional fishing practices.
