Liveaboard accidents have increased significantly post-COVID, with 2024 alone reporting ten incidents. Most of these accidents didn’t involve casualties, but few incidents did lead to loss of life, mainly due to poor safety measures. Many liveaboard operators lacked proper maintenance and crew training after the pandemic, contributing to these risks. Divers should prioritize safety by demanding evacuation drills, inspecting safety equipment, and being aware of the vessel’s maintenance standards. Overall, greater awareness and accountability in the dive tourism industry are vital for enhancing safety.
