Marine Curios #21 Hooded or lion nudibranch, Melibe leonina

The hooded nudibranch is also known as the lion nudibranch. It has a hood that helps it catch tiny crustaceans. These nudibranchs are found on kelp and seagrass in North America. They can grow to about 90mm in length and can swarm in large groups. When threatened, they smell bad to deter predators like crabs.
