Oceana has launched operations in Ghana to protect fish populations and support coastal communities. About 60% of Ghana’s population relies on fish for food and income. Sardinella, a crucial fish in Ghana, has decreased by 80% over 20 years. This decline threatens both community health and the livelihoods of fish processors, often women. Oceana will advocate for better fishing management and support small-scale fishers to ensure access to nutritious marine resources.
