Penida dive instructor rescues entangled manta – again!

A scuba diving instructor in Nusa Penida, Indonesia, recently rescued a manta ray that was entangled in a fishing net. Jason Fondis noticed the manta, a female, struggling with a large net covering its cephalic lobe. Although divers are usually prohibited from entering the cleaning station where mantas gather, Fondis found an opportunity to help the manta once it moved away. He carefully cut the net away, allowing the manta to swim freely. This was not his first rescue, as he had done a similar rescue in 2020.
