Rebreather Mouthpiece Retaining Straps

Rebreather mouthpiece retaining straps (MRS) are critical for safety during diving. They help to secure the mouthpiece in place, especially during a loss of consciousness (LoC) due to inappropriate breathing gases. Without an MRS, a diver risks drowning as the mouthpiece can fall out, leading to fluid aspiration and asphyxiation. The use of MRS has been shown to improve survival chances by preventing airway obstruction and increasing the likelihood of successful rescue by a buddy. Proper training and understanding of their importance can significantly enhance diver safety.
