Some Red Sea liveaboards are being cancelled – here’s why

Recent cancellations of liveaboard trips in the Egyptian Red Sea have been caused by tighter regulations on crew qualifications. A sudden rule change requires that one marine mechanic on board must hold a more advanced mechanical engineering license. Currently, there aren’t enough licensed mechanics available, causing operators to struggle to comply. Some divers experienced delays waiting to depart, while others reported trip cancellations. As more regulations are expected in January, divers should check with their operators for updates on their bookings.
