New research shows Controlled Emergency Swimming Ascents (CESAs) can harm divers’ lungs. Even healthy divers may feel no symptoms but still face hidden stress. Improper techniques, like not exhaling, can worsen risks. Differences in individual lung response highlight the need for better training tools. This study suggests we should not assume safety without symptoms.
