Whose Rebreather is it, anyway?

Buying a closed-circuit rebreather (CCR) can be exciting, but some divers may fail their certification course. If that happens, they might own a high-cost unit they can’t even practice with. To prevent untrained divers from using potentially dangerous equipment, some manufacturers limit access to the device until training is complete. They might do this by using special codes or removing parts. Reputable diving organizations, like RAID, ensure that divers don’t receive a certification unless they show proper understanding and comfort with the rebreather.
