Scientists from the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute have identified a new nudibranch species named Bathydevius caudactylus. This deep-sea creature swims in the bathypelagic zone, between 1,000 and 3,300 meters deep. Unlike other nudibranchs, this species is bioluminescent and can use glowing appendages for defense. B. caudactylus has a unique feeding method involving a large hood, distinguishing it from other nudibranchs. This discovery highlights the importance of exploring deep-sea environments.
