Diving Into My Family’s WWII History

Robert Leenen, an experienced technical diver, explored his family’s WWII history by diving on the wreck of the battleship Tirpitz in Norway. This dive was emotionally significant, as it coincided with the 80th anniversary of the mission his grandfather participated in during the war. The wreck site, just off Håkøya island, holds remnants of the ship and personal artifacts that tell stories of the sailors who lost their lives. The experience deepened Leenen’s respect for the past and allowed him to connect with descendants of his grandfather’s wingman.
