PADI has been collaborating with National Geographic Pristine Seas to research the benefits of protecting scuba diving sites. Their study shows that creating more marine protected areas (MPAs) could bring in an extra USD 2.7 billion for the scuba diving industry. This increase comes mainly from divers paying access fees to local communities. Protecting these sites also supports marine life and boosts coastal economies. With the goal of protecting 30% of the ocean by 2030, PADI aims to inspire more divers to advocate for ocean conservation.
