A recent study by scientists, including those from National Geographic Pristine Seas, shows that scuba divers are willing to spend more to dive in Marine Protected Areas (MPAs). These areas could generate an extra USD 2.7 billion for the scuba diving industry through access fees paid by divers. Protecting dive sites not only helps marine life but also boosts local economies. With better protection, the number of dives could increase by more than 10 million annually. PADI’s global network supports these efforts, aiming to protect 30% of the ocean by 2030.
