SS United States one step closer to becoming world’s largest artifical reef

The SS United States, a historic ocean liner, is closer to becoming the world’s largest artificial reef. The Okaloosa County Board in Florida approved a contract to sink the ship off Destin-Fort Walton Beach, adding to the area’s diving attractions. This project promises to create a unique habitat for marine life and enhance scuba diving opportunities. A land-based museum will also be established to educate visitors about the ship’s legacy. Cleaning and preparation for the sinking will take over a year, aiming for a diver-friendly depth.
