SAVING THE VAQUITA

The Vaquita Porpoise is critically endangered, with only about ten individuals left in the Sea of Cortez. These small porpoises fall victim to illegal fishing nets meant for the Totoaba fish, which are highly valuable on the black market. Sea Shepherd has been working to protect the Vaquita by removing these nets and patrolling a designated area known as the Zero Tolerance Area. Despite challenges, efforts to monitor and rescue the Vaquita continue, highlighting the urgent need to protect marine ecosystems and endangered species.
