Brazil’s lost tropical island

A sunken tropical island the size of Iceland has been found off the coast of Brazil, submerged 600m underwater. Samples of red clay, similar to Brazil’s soil, revealed the island’s lush vegetation history. The island formed from volcanic activity around 40 million years ago before sinking. The Brazilian government seeks to expand its maritime borders due to the island’s geological significance.
