Cetacean Opps – Cracking the Sperm Whale Alphabet

Whale songs are complex sounds made of groans, roars, and squeals. People have been fascinated by these sounds since 1967 when Roger Payne studied humpback whale songs. The Cetacean Translation Initiative, or CETI, is working on translating these whale sounds. Their research could help humans understand what whales are communicating.
