From Brasilia to Manila

Oceana has worked for ten years to improve ocean conditions in Brazil and the Philippines. They have successfully partnered with local artisanal fishers to promote sustainable fishery practices and combat illegal fishing. In Brazil, they implemented catch limits for important species and increased transparency in fishery data management. Similarly, in the Philippines, Oceana helped pass laws to track commercial fishing and protect crucial marine areas, ultimately supporting small-scale fisheries and their communities. Both countries have seen significant improvements in fish populations and environmental health as a result of these efforts.
