Historic Shark & Ray Listings at CITES CoP19
At the CITES Conference of Parties in Panama, four proposals to list nearly 100 species of sharks and rays have been approved. This includes requiem sharks, hammerheads, guitarfishes, and freshwater stingrays, which will now be listed on CITES Appendix II. This listing is important because it helps control trade to prevent overfishing and supports efforts to conserve these vital marine species.
