Mexico Takes Aim Against Marine Animals’ Trafficking But Criminal Networks Persist

Despite sanctions from international bodies, criminal networks continue to exploit these species due to high demand, especially from China. Both the totoaba and vaquita are endemic to the Gulf of California, and their population is threatened by illegal fishing practices, resulting in a biodiversity crisis in the region.
