Wreck of 18th-Century warship HMS Tyger identified in Florida Keys

The wreck of the 18th-century British warship HMS Tyger, identified in Florida Keys, ran aground off Garden Key in 1742 during Anglo-Spanish War. The vessel was part of the British fleet, but its captain, Captain Herbert, disobeyed orders and ran aground while pursuing Spanish ships. The crew was marooned on Garden Key for 66 days and eventually rescued. The site was positively identified in 2021 through the discovery of five cannon matching Tyger’s armaments.
